In 2025, the capital was voted the World’s Best Destination for Business Tourism at the World Travel Awards for the seventh consecutive year. Furthermore, according to the AMEX 2026 «Global Meetings & Events Forecast» report, Madrid is the second most sought-after European city for hosting events.

Business opportunities

Madrid is considered one of the main economic engines of southern Europe: it is the fifth region of the European Union in terms of gross domestic product, with a high per capita GDP and a contribution to the national GDP of close to 20 %.

The city has a diversified business fabric with more than 14,000 subsidiaries of multinational companies, and it hosts national and international institutions such as UN Tourism or the World Travel & Tourism Council. It also benefits from strong access to the European and African markets thanks to its geographical location, and to the Latin American market due to its historical, cultural and linguistic links as well as its numerous air connections.

Madrid also stands out for the dynamism of its companies with more than 3,500 active start-ups, accelerators and a thriving tech ecosystem, especially in sectors such as fintech, digital health, mobility and energy. If this is possible, it is among other things because Madrid has become the hub for telecommunications and data in Southern Europe. These industries, along with other sectors such as cybersecurity, video games or big data, benefit from special support from the Madrid City Council in order to develop them in the capital and organize events related to these sectors.

Madrid is also a global economic hub because doing business there is easy thanks to its legal framework and the many skilled talents on site: the city boasts 11 unique scientific and technical infrastructures (ICTS), 7 advanced research institutes and a dense network of science and technology parks that, combined with the 23 existing universities and business schools, offer a diverse and highly skilled workforce.

This environment fosters the creation of synergies and business opportunities for participants in professional events who choose to hold them in the capital.

Connectivity, culture and quality of life

Madrid benefits from an advantageous international position in the field of professional events, which represents 23% % of the MICE activity in Spain. The capital combines a strong economy, a safe environment, and highly developed transport infrastructure with more than 434 air routes. It is also the heart of the high-speed rail network serving the entire national territory and has one of the most modern and developed public transport networks – metro and bus – in Europe, designed to guarantee connectivity, reliability, and accessibility on a metropolitan scale.

Madrid boasts an artistic and cultural heritage of international renown, including the Landscape of Light, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city also houses some of the most prestigious museums in the world, as well as an exceptional range of theaters, musicals, art galleries, and cultural centers. This patrimonial wealth, combined with a permanent calendar of events and a vibrant urban life, enriches the experience for professionals and makes every encounter a unique opportunity to discover the very essence of the city.

Our pleasant climate and natural wealth, both in the city and in the surrounding area, combined with the range of hotels and event spaces available, as well as the city’s artistic and cultural heritage, strengthen Madrid’s appeal as a preferred destination for the MICE sector, capable of meeting the needs of the most demanding organizers and participants.

Meetings that make sense

In 2025, Madrid hosted more than 51,000 events, with an economic impact of over €5.5 billion. In this context, organizers benefit from the infrastructure and expertise of Madrid Convention Bureau, a specialized department within the public company Madrid Destino. Its main objectives are to promote Madrid as a destination for hosting all types of meetings and actively seek out these events.

This commitment to environmental, economic and social sustainability is being concretized, through the Madrid Convention Bureau, through various initiatives, such as the practical guides on sustainability and heritage available on the website, or the online platform PLUS for the comprehensive management of the environmental and social sustainability of events in Madrid.
