
While traffic levels at Heathrow airport reached unprecedented levels in 2011, the hub's utilisation rate was also a record: operator BAA used 99.2% of the capacity offered by Heathrow in terms of the number of departures and arrivals. The London airport, threatened by congestion, helped reduce BAA's losses from £316 million to less than £256 million. Stansted airport, on the other hand, saw a fall in passenger numbers over 2011 (-2.8 1TP3Q to 18 million).
