Star Alliance is preparing to strengthen its position in Asia with the forthcoming arrival of Eva Air. The Taiwanese carrier, which covers 62 destinations, will also "strengthen the quality of the Alliance's hubs in Asia, since it offers the shortest average distance to many major destinations in the Asia-Pacific region", explains Eva Air, which is expected to join the alliance in 2013. With the three other applications currently being validated, Star Alliance should then comprise thirty airlines and cover 1,345 destinations in 191 countries.
