Marriott thinks big in Latin America: ambitious plans for 2017

Marriot has big ambitions for the Latin American market: at least that's what the group's CEO, Arne Sorenson, recently announced. The number of Marriot hotels in Latin America and the Caribbean is set to double by 2017.

The Marriott group has its sights firmly set on the South: its CEO recently announced at a summit in Colombia that the American giant's hotel portfolio - currently "limited" to 69 establishments in Latin America - will be doubled in five years, to more than 140 hotels. Marriott's aim is to meet the growing demand from emerging markets, driven in particular by Brazil. Brazil is set to add 12 new hotels to the five already established.
