Danish skies were darkened by the bankruptcy of Cimber Sterling, which had been struggling with financial problems for many months. With aircraft grounded and passengers cheated, the company ceased operations altogether on 3 May. SAS Scandinavian Airlines, the airline's partner on several codeshare routes, is already adding flights to help Cimber Sterling customers stranded by the sudden shutdown. For its part, Vueling will be offering discounted fares between 6 and 10 May to Cimber Sterling passengers with tickets between Spain and Denmark, while a number of Scandinavian airlines, including Danish Air Transport, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Flybe Nordic, stand to benefit from this bankruptcy and take over the routes abandoned by the airline.
