As announced on 20 April when the acquisition was finalised, Bmibaby and BMI Regional were not part of IAG's long-term plans. We did not have to wait long to see the consequences. Bmibaby, a subsidiary of BMI, has just announced that it will be phasing out its operations. The shutdown will take place in two stages, with a number of flights no longer operated from 11 June. The others, mainly to sun destinations, will cease operating after the summer, from 9 September. Among the routes withdrawn from June are those between East Midlands airport and those of Paris, Nice, Geneva and Amsterdam. The Birmingham-Nice route will be discontinued from September.
