2012 has been a good year for Marseille airport, with its growth rate increasing every month. 736,841 passengers used the Marseille hub last month (+19.1% compared with 2011), giving the airport its highest monthly traffic growth for 5 years. To explain these good results, airport officials point to the new destinations introduced by Air France and the strong comeback of Ryanair, while conceding that the comparison is logically distorted by the impact last year of the Arab Spring. Nevertheless, the figures published by the airport on Friday give Marseille's managers cause for optimism: "passenger traffic should (...) exceed 8 million passengers in 2012 for the first time in its history", according to the press release.
