Indonesia plans 45 new airports

Indonesia intends to support its economic growth by expanding its air capacity, particularly to cater for foreign business travellers. In all, no fewer than 45 new airports are due to open over the next ten years.

On 11 June, the Indonesian media reported on the government's ambitious plans for the aviation sector: according to official sources, the Ministry of Transport plans to build 45 new airports by 2022, including 27 new hubs by 2017. This vast construction plan is intended to respond to the development of Indonesian civil aviation, and to serve the country's growth by enabling the launch of new international routes.
