Unsurprisingly, Etihad Airways will be pursuing its European expansion strategy through Alitalia. In a press release published on 25 June, the two airlines "confirmed [on Wednesday] that they have agreed the principal terms and conditions of a transaction under which Etihad Airways will acquire a 49% interest in Alitalia". All that remains now is to "finalise the transaction documents" and obtain "final regulatory approvals", according to Etihad Airways.
