The survey published by the Direction du Transport Aérien (DTA) of the Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC) is based on some 43,500 questionnaires distributed in 15 French airports. The results show that the majority of travellers are male (54%), mostly aged between 26 and 35 (26%), and mostly of French nationality (54%). English, American and Italian travellers were the most frequent foreign passengers. We also learn that business travel accounts for less than a third of all journeys (28%), compared with 43% for holiday and leisure purposes. Similarly, in 21% of cases, the ticket was paid for by the company.
The DGAC survey goes further, telling us that 95% of passengers are travelling in economy class... Most of them (51%) booked their ticket on the airline's website, with the travel agency's online portal coming in 2nd place (16%), just ahead of the "physical" agency (14%). Finally, in 27% of cases, travellers booked an average of one to four weeks in advance of their flight.
