How do you explain the fact that Portugal has become one of the most popular destinations for business tourism?
Jean-Pierre Pinheiro Portugal has had the wind in its sails for some years now, but this has accelerated sharply over the last three years. A number of factors have come together. The ease of access in particular, the result of several years of investment and incentives for airlines, particularly low-cost airlines. We now have more than 420 flights a week from around twenty French airports. What's more, the quality of our infrastructure is widely recognised. We regularly win international awards for the best short-stay destinations, seaside resorts, golf courses, etc. This helps to boost the destination's image. What's more, our value for money is among the best. It is now more affordable to organise an incentive or conference in Portugal than in many other French and European destinations.
What are the most popular event venues for companies?
J-P. P. Our destination's strength lies in the diversity of its venues. Incoming agencies are able to offer original locations and/or locations that are highly representative of our heritage. The monuments, monasteries and historic sites that can be privatised are very popular, reflecting our rich cultural heritage. The Patio de Gale, the esplanade of St George's Castle and the Arena Campo Pequeno are emblematic of Lisbon, representing both our architectural expertise and our culture, whether ancient or modern.
And what about contemporary venues?
J-P. P. : In Lisbon, I'm thinking of the LX Factory, the Design Museum and the Chiado Museum, dedicated to contemporary art and renovated by Jean-Michel Wilmotte.
