Why did you launch Thailand's first coworking space?

Amarit Charoenphan - I launched Hubba in June 2012. Originally, my plan was to set up a business from home, but I was feeling lonely, demotivated and disconnected from other people. I was going to work in cafés, but the WiFi wasn't always very good, the seats weren't very ergonomic, the environment was rather noisy... So I realised that the concept of coworking was sorely lacking in Thailand. That's how the idea came about.

What is the Hubba concept and what does it mean?

A. C. - Firstly, the name Hubba comes from 'Hub', the English word that refers to certain airports or major economic and commercial hubs, and from the Thai word 'Ba', which means 'crazy'. What we wanted to create was not just a dream office, extremely well equipped and affordable for young start-ups, but above all a real spirit of community, support and friendship. We share business opportunities, we do each other favours so that our companies can succeed.

What are your prospects for the future?

A. C. - Today, we already offer eight spaces in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Vientiane, and soon elsewhere outside Thailand. Our aim is to expand throughout South-East Asia.
