The European Commission has published a new blacklist of airlines banned from EU skies. "The update was carried out for seven air carriers registered in Angola because they no longer hold a valid Air Operator Certificate (AOC) issued by their national civil aviation authority and are therefore removed from the EU aviation safety list. In addition, two new air carriers registered in Angola have been included on the EU aviation safety list"says the European Commission.
A total of 115 airlines have been banned from European skies:
- 109 airlines certified in 15 states (Afghanistan, Angola (with the exception of one airline operating under restrictions and conditions), Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gabon (with the exception of 2 airlines operating under restrictions and conditions), Kyrgyz Republic, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone and Sudan) due to the lack of safety oversight by aviation authorities in these states.
- Six airlinesThese are Avior Airlines (Venezuela), Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Iraqi Airways (Iraq), Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname), Med-View Airlines (Nigeria) and Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe).
Six other airlines are subject to operating restrictions and can only serve the EU with specific types of aircraft: Afrijet and Nouvelle Air Affaires SN2AG (Gabon), Air Koryo (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), Air Service Comores (Comoros), Iran Air (Iran) and TAAG Angola Airlines (Angola).
