Will tomorrow's business travel take place aboard an electric aircraft? Possibly, if we are to believe the efforts being made by Airbus. The European aircraft manufacturer has even signed a memorandum of understanding with SAS with this in mind. The two partners plan to begin work in the month of June on hybrid and electric vehicles. " Under this Memorandum of Understanding, Airbus and SAS Scandinavian Airlines will cooperate on a joint research project to better understand the operational and infrastructural opportunities and challenges associated with the large-scale introduction of hybrid and fully electric aircraft in airline operating procedures "says the aircraft manufacturer in a press release.
This collaboration is due to end at the end of next year. SAS aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. To achieve this, the company will be relying on a modernised fleet and the use of biofuels, but electric aircraft are already considered to be "the next step". " We're proud of our ambitious sustainability work and we're delighted that Airbus has chosen SAS to partner us on this future project. If this becomes a reality, it will revolutionise emissions.
