
Eurowings launches its Smart tariff revised for short and medium-haul flights. Smart is the airline's intermediate fare between its basic Basic and Bizclass fares. Eurowings is thus responding to the needs of passengers using this class of travel who did not seem to find the services to be commensurate with the fare paid.
Le 4 June Eurowings will therefore be improving boarding procedures for Smart passengers and reviewing its on-board service. Firstly, Smart passengers will now be given priority boarding with Bizclass travellers and premium members of frequent flyer programmes. Smart passengers will also receive a guarantee that their hand baggage will be placed in the cabin and not sent to the hold in the event of heavy traffic.
On the other hand, the snack that was offered disappeared. According to Eurowings, it did not seem to be popular with passengers. Instead, Smart passengers will benefit from a preferential price on the menu offered. The bad tongues will say that the company's current losses explain the disappearance of the free sandwich...
Passengers also retain the right to check in free baggage weighing up to 23 kg, to reserve their seat free of charge and to change their flight at no extra charge. Access to a exhibition will also remain open to premium members of the Miles and More programme.
The new Smart concept will first be launched at a number of ports of call in Germanys two largest bases, in Düsseldorf and Munich as well as in Cologne, Dortmund, Hamburg and Stuttgart - all destinations with high levels of business traffic. Outside Germany, Palma and Vienna will also benefit from this service. In September, all Eurowings stations will offer the revised Smart product.
Lufthansa also announced in April that capacity growth on its low-cost carrier would fall, whereas it had previously forecast an increase of 2%. The carrier has to face up to theintensifying competition with its low-cost competitors, resulting in a loss of 257 million euros over the first three months of the year.
