Interview with Carole Gé, Sales Director France, Qantas

Carole Gé, Commercial Director for France at Qantas, looks back over the latest news and projects under consideration at the airline, particularly in terms of in-flight services, the very long-haul network and partnerships.

The results of the very long-haul service from London to Perth Does this encourage Qantas to consider other routes?

Carole Gé - The results after a year of operation have exceeded all our expectations. The line has become cost-effective after just a few weeks of operation, the occupancy rate has reached an average of 94% and, thanks to the performance of our B787 Dreamliner on this route, Qantas recorded a flight reliability rate of 99.5%. The London - Perth route marks the start of a unprecedented investment in the development of new long-haul routes. Our teams are currently working on the implementation of direct flights from Australia's east coast to London and New York by 2022. This development is known as "Project Sunrise. We challenged Airbus and Boeing to enable their next-generation aircraft under development - the Airbus A350 ULR and Boeing 777X - to fly these distances at full capacity non-stop. A direct flight would reduce the total journey time by four hours on a Sydney-London route and by almost three hours on a Melbourne- London route.New York.

What latest improvements has Qantas made to its long-haul flights?

C. G. - In collaboration with the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney, Qantas has developed a comprehensive programme to rethink our approach to service on long-haul routes. This joint project focused in particular on solutions that would have a significant impact on jet lag, namely: on-board exercise and movement, menu creation and meal service duration, pre-flight and post-flight preparation, wellbeing in transit lounges and cabin lighting and temperature. This has resulted, for example, in the creation of exclusive menus and drinks, using ingredients that promote hydration, sleep quality and combat jet lag, with dishes based on cucumbers, celery and strawberries, probiotic drinks and drinks based on the amino acid tryptophan, etc. Our lounges have also been redesigned to include wellness areas, in particular the Perth which features yoga and light therapy areas, an open terrace with an Australian barbecue and a bar offering only signature drinks made with local ingredients to help you hydrate before the flight.

Is there a lot of talk about a return to Paris? Is this becoming clearer?

C. G. - Qantas is constantly looking at ways to adjust its long-haul network. With the arrival of the new Dreamliner aircraft in our fleet in 2019, we will be able to open up new routes for our customers. two new routes next year Brisbane - Chicago and Brisbane - Chicago. San Francisco. For the moment, we have no announcement to make regarding a possible return of Qantas to Paris.

How is your collaboration with Emirates working at the Dubai hub?

Carole Gé - We operate a joint business with Emirates between Europe and Australia/New Zealand. This partnership enables our joint customers to benefit from an extensive network on both continents, as well as airport infrastructure and services, and reciprocal access to a wide range of services. loyalty programmes of each carrier. In addition, we are delighted to have renewed our partnership with Air France Thanks to this agreement, our customers now have an additional option to reach Australia from Paris via connections in Singapore and Hong Kong. The return of this code-share is in line with our strategy of strategic partnerships to offer our customers an extended network and a new, more fluid travel experience, whatever their destination.
