Folded in your hand, it feels like you're holding a book. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is clearly a laptop unlike any other. Its leather 'skin' on the outside and its size (folded: 158 x 236 x 28 mm) make it a far cry from a conventional laptop, apart from the weight, which is just under a kilo thanks to the use oflight alloys and carbon fibre. However, once opened, this is a compact laptopThis is a very practical device when you use the top half of its 13.3" (2048 x 1536) screen for information and the bottom half as a keyboard. Very practical in this configuration, it can easily be used in difficult transport conditions where space is at a premium. Unfolded, it transforms into a 13.3" tablet, which can be held in place vertically thanks to an integrated fold-out stand. The fold of the magnificent screen OLED provided by LG is then almost invisible. A keyboard The slim, physical Bluetooth can be easily slipped inside the ThinkPad X1 Fold (it's held in place by a magnetic system and then charges), then used to take advantage of the full screen size. A stylus can also be used for greater efficiency.
But the Lenovo doesn't forget the practical aspects behind its spectacular appearance. It offers meticulous endurance with its 11 h battery life. Co-developed with Intel, this connected PC includes Intel Core processors with Intel hybrid technology, up to 1 TB SSD, sound Dolby Audioa card SIM (4G and, later, 5G) and two USB C ports. On Windows 10, it has different display modes so you can split the screen into two parts if you need to. Lenovo explains that it is possible to use the top part for a teleconference and the lower part of the screen for take notesfor example. Clever. A Windows X version is planned at a later date. The ThinkPad X1 Fold has been announced for second half of 2020 with a base rate of 2 499 $ for the American market. It is not likely to remain alone on the market for long: Dell also showed off its proposal for a mobile phone with a foldable screen, still in the prototype stage, at CES. So this is a path that others are preparing to follow.
