Despite being grounded, the airline industry remains mobilised and focused on one objective: to convince travellers to board again for business or leisure. This means finding a rapid response to the health requirementsand, in particular, to the problem of social distancing. This equation is all the more complex at the rear of the aircraft, given the density of seats in the cabin. economy class. La standard 66% has already been mentioned by several players, notably IATA. But other ideas are emerging to adapt these constraints to a business model that is already very fragile. Aviointeriors took up the challenge. Regularly asked to design the cabin of the future, the Italian designer this time looked to the near future, with two concepts.

The first, called Glassafetakes the form of a 'simple' shell grafted on top of each seat. The fastening system must make it easy to install or remove, and swivel to simplify passenger boarding. In addition to sanitary insulation, the airline can opt for "visual" insulation by choosing the degree of opacity of the shell.
The second option proposed by Aviointeriors to the air transport industry is called Janus. Unlike Glassafe, which is limited to a removable kit, this concept implies a real reorganisation of the cabin, and therefore a more substantial investment on the part of the airlines. Janus could therefore appear to be a longer-term solution for applying social distancing in economy class. Aviointeriors' project is based on reversing the middle seat, which would face the rear of the aircraft - hence the reference to the Roman god with two faces. Here too, the device isolating each passenger is designed so that the glass can be easily disinfected, and airlines can opt for different levels of transparency.
The fact remains that the in-flight phase is just one stage among many in the journey from door to door, and that appropriate responses will have to be found at every stage of the journey, both in terms of "objective" health efficiency and - perhaps most complex of all - in terms of each passenger's apprehensions...
