Airline sector recovery remains weak virus mutations, confinements, border closures and travel restrictions. As a result, Swiss national airline's summer schedule will be much more limited than expectedespecially in the second quarter.
According to Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Chief Commercial Officer at Swiss, "we have again been forced to reduce our offer due to the increased travel restrictions caused by the high levels of contamination. However, particular emphasis will be placed on leisure travel, as business travel is taking longer to recover".
The company estimates that it should be able to offer around 65 % of 2019 capacity during the 3e quarter. This summer, it will serve 85 destinations from Zurich and 43 from Geneva.
From Zurich, Swiss will only offer two new destinations. From 25 June, it will be flying twice a week to Tallinn in Estonia. From 2 July, it will also be offering two weekly flights to Billundin Denmark. The town is the headquarters of toy manufacturer Lego, but is also at the heart of Jutland and its network of industrial towns. The airport faces Europe's largest theme park, Legoland.
Swiss also intends to resume a number of European and intercontinental routes which are currently suspended. On the long-haul sidethe carrier will resume up to five weekly flights to Miami from 28 March. Boston will benefit from up to one daily flight from May 1st and Los Angeles up to five frequencies per week from 2 May. Swiss plans to resume flights Zurich - Cairo with four flights a week from 1er July.
Return from Bordeaux-Zurich
On the short-haul side, Swiss will take over from 1er April service to Niš in Serbia, and Sarajevo. On these two cities, it will offer one or two flights a week. From 12 May, passengers will once again have 12 flights a week between Zurich and London City Airport. Finally on 18 June, Swiss to relaunch Bordeaux-Zurich service with five weekly flights. The carrier will also be increasing its routes to Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Naples, Palma de Mallorca, Thessaloniki and Vienna.
A GenevaOn 19 June, Swiss will launch two flights a week to Santorini then on 2 July to Split. From September, one flight a week will be offered on Funchalon the island of Madeira. Among the destinations most frequently served this summer from Geneva will include London Heathrow, AthensPorto and Lisbon.
