In the second quarter of 2025, Air France-KLM recorded a sharp rise in operating income to 736 million euros223 million more than last year, with a net profit of operating margin of 8.7%. This performance was underpinned by growth in unit revenues (+2.4%) in the passenger, cargo and low-cost (Transavia) sectors. But also because of a remarkably stable unit cost, including fuel.
2025 outlook maintained
The group transported 27.3 million passengersan increase of 5,9% year-on-year. Traffic and capacity rose by 4.2%, enabling us to maintain a high load factor at 87,8%. Revenue per passenger showed very good growth on the following routes transatlantic, Asia and the Middle East. As well as for premium cabins.
Despite the rise in certain costs - airport charges (+41% at Schiphol), wage costs and maintenance costs - the Group's operating margin remained stable. unit costs rose by only 2.7%partly offset by productivity gains.
With cash flow (free operating cash flow) that amounts to 1.3 billion, the Group was able to reduce its net debt à 7.1 billion euros. While continuing to invest in fleet renewal.
Air France-KLM has reconfirmed its objectives for the year. The Group expects capacity growth from 4 to 5% in seat kilometres offered by the Air France-KLM group, including for Transavia. The Group is still aiming for a moderate rise in unit costs. As for net investments, they should be understood between 3.2 and 3.4 billion euros.
An ever-greener fleet
Air France-KLM continues to accelerated fleet renewalwith 30% of new-generation equipment (A350, B787-10, A320neo, A220, Embraer 195-E2) at 30 June, compared with 23% a year earlier. These aircraft provide fuel consumption reduction of up to 25% and a noise footprint reduced by 63%. The duo has set an ambitious target of 80% new-generation aircraft to be added to the fleet by 2030.
The greenhouse gas emissions declined by 1,5% over one year, to 924 gCO₂eq per tonne-kilometre transported. This confirms Air France-KLM's commitment to more sustainable aviation. A fine performance against a difficult backdrop. The Group is facing delays in aircraft deliveries, engine problems and longer flight times due to the geopolitical context..
Air France-KLM is also committed to the production of sustainable fuel (SAF). In June 2025, at the Salon International de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, Air France signed the SAF section of the New Energy Systems contract with the French government and manufacturers.
With four main objectives:
- Set national targets for FAS production and consumption by 2030 and beyond;
- Developing competitive financing models on a French and European scale;
- Supporting the industrialisation of SAF projects and securing their profitability;
- Launch the first advanced bio-SAF and e-SAF production projects before 2030.
