
Le Federal Bureau of Transport Statistics recently published the results of the air punctuality within the United States for airline arrivals. This punctuality is slightly lower than in 2023 since it was established at 77,75% compared with 78.34% in 2023. This is still better than in 2022, when the average punctuality was 76.72%. The punctuality of the top ten airlines has managed to exceed 80% in 2020 and 2021, during the Covid period.
Changes to airline rankings
As far as airlines are concerned, there were some changes in the rankings in 2024. The most punctual company was Hawaiian Airlines with a rate of 84,93% of flights arriving within 15 minutes of schedule. In 2023, the Western US carrier posted a punctuality rate of just 75n20%. As a result, Delta Air Lines, which was the most punctual in 2023, has slipped back to second place. Its punctuality has fallen from 83,52% 81.17% last year.
United Airlines is in third place. Its average punctuality last year was 78,90% compared with 78.47% a year earlier. The carrier is being followed by the low-cost giant Southwest Airlines. Its punctuality rate reached 78,74% in 2024 compared with 77.25% in 2023. It should be noted that the punctuality ofAmerican Airlines deteriorated sharply between 2023 and 2024. The carrier will go from an average of 78.88% to 75,18%. The two companies with the worst performances in 2024 are JetBlue (73,58% flights per hour) and Frontier (68,76%).
In fact, this same airline recorded the highest cancellation rate in 2024. Frontier cancelled 2.57% of all its flights, followed by another low-cost carrier, Spirit, with a rate of 2.23%. The two carriers with the lowest cancellation rate in 2024 were Southwest Airlines (0.64%) and Alaska Airlines (0.73%).

Atlanta mega-hub among the most punctual airports
For airports, Salt Lake City came out on top with 83.96% of flight arrivals on time by 2024. Next on the list is Washington-Dulles (82,99%), Atlanta (81,62%) and Minneapolis-St Paul (81.12%). Among the very large American hubs, Los Angeles and Chicago O'Hare performed fairly well, at 79,93% and 79,89%.
New York JFK has achieved a punctuality rate of 77,03%, Miami at 75.02%, Dallas-Fort Worth at 74%. Coming in last place, San Francisco with an arrival punctuality rate of only 68,89%.
