The most spectacular measure taken in Austria concerns the near-total closure of borders withItaly. Travellers will be put off in both directions, with flights and rail services now completely suspended. Rail traffic stops this Tuesday 10 March evening. Trains from other European countries now have the following termini Innsbruck40 km north of the border on the Brenner Pass.

L'Vienna airport said on 11 March that it had recorded a decline in passenger numbers of around 30% since the beginning of March, in stark contrast to February's results. Last month, the hub recorded an 8.3% increase in passenger numbers compared with February 2019, with one notable exception: traffic to Asia was down by more than 10%, due to the impact of COVID-19.
