London's event infrastructures are getting a makeover. While ExCel London is due to complete its extension works in October 2024Another MICE spot is set to follow soon. Visit Barbican Centre has just obtained the agreement of the City of London Corporation to finance the launch of renovation works. This will involve improving the operating performance but above all environmental over the next two years. The project also includes the transformation of under-used areas of the centre, and improvements to the halls and public spaces, with a view to investing in the Barbican Centre's technical capabilities.
"The renovation programme for the Barbican Centre will enable it to retain its status as a creative catalyst for the arts, curiosity and enterprise in London - a cultural and events venue d'international reach rooted in its community"the project managers predict.
Validation of this £25 million investment is, however, only the beginning of the first stage of the site's transformation. Other sources of funding will then have to be identified, as the people in charge of the project point out: "Following the £25 million funding from the City Corporation, the Barbican Centre will be seeking a range of additional sources of funding for the next phases of the programme.".
