Cathay Pacific is strengthening its position in Spain. As the Hong Kong-based airline prepares to launch a seasonal route in July between Hong Kong and Barcelona - operated with the latest Airbus A350-900 - in addition to its four weekly flights to Madrid, Cathay Pacific has joined forces with Iberia to offer connecting services to its passengers. The two members of the oneworld alliance have signed a code-sharing agreement on Iberia routes between Madrid and five popular destinations in Spain: Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Palma and Valencia. Cathay Pacific's CX code will also be used on Iberia flights between Madrid and Lisbon in Portugal. At the same time, these new connections will benefit all passengers flying from the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands to Hong Kong. This agreement will take effect from 7 June 2017.
Paul Loo, Cathay Pacific's Chief Commercial Officer, hailed the collaboration as "a major step forward for Cathay Pacific.will enable us to strengthen our connections by extending our European network while developing the oneworld alliance."For his part, Neil Chernoff, Iberia's Director of Network and Alliances, emphasised that this partnership opened up "a new dimension in air travel.new opportunities in the Iberian Peninsula for Cathay Pacific's business and leisure passengers from Asia. This codeshare agreement offers passengers from Spain and Portugal a convenient stopover on their journey to Hong Kong."
