The business hotel brand Crowne Plaza will make its debut at Budapest in 2021. The Group IHG has agreed with its owner, the Granit Polus Group, to take over an existing establishment, which was once the Hilton Budapest West End.
Within walking distance of the train station serving international and international close to the business district of the Hungarian capital, the hotel is part of the Westend City Centre shopping complex. "It is with great pleasure that we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Westend City Centre with such an announcement, as we believe that the time has come to give this hotel a new image." said Miklos Gyertyanfy, Director of Asset Management at Granit Polus.
Alongside this change of name, the Granit Polus group will be spending over €10 million renovating the hotel over the next two years. The Crowne Plaza will offer 230 rooms as well as 13 meeting rooms. "The hotel will be the brand's first to enter the Hungarian market and we are convinced that the Crowne Plaza (...) will help us to increase our presence in this country." commented Mario Maxeiner, Managing Director Northern Europe, Russia, CIS and Georgia for IHG. The British group currently manages two hotels in Budapest - an InterContinental and a Holiday Inn - and is awaiting the opening of the Holiday Inn Express Budapest - City Centre, scheduled for 2022.
