Deloitte report: a difficult summer for the French hotel industry

Deloitte-In Extenso has published its review of August, which concludes a gloomy summer for the French hotel sector.

Despite the slight upturn recorded in August, "the 2012 summer season will not go down in history as a benchmark season" sums up Deloitte-In Extenso in its monthly report published on 2 October. "Cumulative accommodation sales growth in the French hotel industry for July and August remains below 2% for all categories" adds the report, with Paris and the Côte d'Azur managing to stand out from the crowd. In the capital, top-of-the-range and luxury hotels recorded double-digit growth in occupancy rates, while the Côte d'Azur saw its sales soar (+5 to +6%) during the summer. The rest of the country remained on the fringes of these good results: "The provinces were undoubtedly the areas that suffered most in August", says the report, which sums up: "Occupancy was down in virtually all categories, with only the budget hotel sector managing to stabilise its numbers".
