Guest of honour at IFTM 2025, the Dominican Republic is asserting its ambitions to further enhance its attractiveness in terms of business and leisure tourism. Back in July 2024, VINCI Airports had made official an investment of some thirty million dollars to modernise the infrastructure of Santo Domingo airport: Las Americas (AILA). A year later, last August, the operator moved up a gear with the official launch of the construction of a new passenger terminal. An event which coincided with the inauguration of a new cargo warehouse, and which was notably welcomed by the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader.
According to VINCI Airports' roadmap, the future terminal is due to open as early as 2028. It will then increase the capacity of Las Americas airport by 4 million passengers per year. Those in charge of the project are talking about an investment of more than 250 million dollars, or more than €213 million.
At the launch of work at the end of August, those involved in the project emphasised the importance of this investment. Mónika Infante, Managing Director of Aerodom - which Vinci Airports acquired in 2016 to rely on a local partner - spoke of the proof of an "unwavering commitment". VINCI Airports' concession contract, initially due to expire in 2030, has been extended to the end of 2023. The government of the Dominican Republic has renewed its trust in VINCI Airports for a 30-year extension.
