It is now possible to book up to three seats in Emirates economy class. This provision is aimed at all customers with a confirmed reservation. The Dubai-based carrier has taken this step to offer passengers greater privacy and limit contact.
However, customers will not be able to reserve empty seats in advance.. These seats will remain open for sale until the last minute. Empty seats will only be offered for purchase at the airport check-in desk before the flight departs. The airline will sell the seat for between 46 to 138 euros (200 to 600 UAE Dirhams). Emirates applies taxes on the seat sold depending on the flight sector.
Emirates has launched this new seat product in response to customer feedback, meeting the needs of passengers looking for extra space while flying Economy. These include couples who want to have the whole row to themselves (maximum of three seats in the same row), parents travelling with small children in their arms, or those who simply want more space during pandemic travel.
Special seats always available as an option
Not including the option of empty seats, Emirates continues to offer a variety of seats for economy customers. They can choose their preferred seat, such as seats with extra legroom, twin seats or seats in the first section of the economy cabin. The cost of these options varies according to the passenger's Emirates Skywards status and fare type.
In addition, Emirates and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) have signed a memorandum of understanding which aims to position Dubai as one of the first cities in the world to implement the digital verification of medical records of travellers linked to covid tests and vaccination.
The United Arab Emirates, Emirates and the DHA are working to link the IT systems of laboratories approved by the health authorities to those of Emirates. This will enable sharing, storing and verifying passenger health information compared with covid-19.
