Adjusted for inflation (in constant 2023 dollars), the average air fare in the first quarter of 2023 was still 34.7 % higher than in the third quarter of 2020 (283$). This was the lowest average air fare since 1995, the first year these statistics were collected.
Still according to statistics from the transport bureau, the average price was down 8.4 % compared with the fourth quarter of 2019 (417$). It was also 37% lower than the highest adjusted average price for a first quarter. That is, 606$, recorded in 1999.
At a selection of major international airports, the highest average fare on domestic routes is to Washington Dulles at 487.49 $.
