ExCeL London launches its digital alter ego

The London convention centre ExCeL London has invested in a new technological tool: a "digital twin" that should make it easier for event organisers to project themselves into the different spaces, so that they can make them their own, particularly once the extension work is complete.

ExCeL London launches its "digital twin" with specialist OnePlan.

Visit October 2024, ExCeL London will have completed its transformation. This makeover will see the London convention centre add 25 000 m² to an already comfortable 100,000 m². This will open up a whole new range of possibilities for event organisers. But they won't necessarily have to wait for the official inauguration to plan their operation within the walls of the convention centre. It was with this in mind that ExCeL London turned to specialist OnePlan.

This collaboration has just resulted in the online publication of a digital avatar of the convention centre, reproducing the entire infrastructure identically, including its extension to the east. This 'digital twin' should make it easier for organisers to make decisions and communicate, enabling them to share personalised projections of their event with their partners. The digital version of ExCeL London should also reduce the number of on-site visits, a strategic argument for clients from outside the UK.

"Thanks to OnePlan, organisers can now have a "digital twin" of their event space, enabling them not only to better planningbut also to optimise elements such as the incoming and outgoing flows and the location of signage and sponsorship activities"says ExCeL's Executive Director James Rees, who also sees it as a ".a sales and marketing tool". " We also know from experience that visiting sites in person, particularly for those outside the UK, can be expensive, time-consuming and carbon-intensive, so we believe that bringing ExCeL to their screens at the click of a button will have a real impact. As a carbon neutral venue, using OnePlan aligns perfectly with our new ESG strategy and our ambitions to be Net Zero by 2030, as well as responding to the growing interest we are receiving from international organisers and stakeholders. "continues James Rees.
