
2456 euros. On average, this is the amount spent on expenses by a French employee in 2018 according to Expensya2,322 in 2017. For the second edition of its annual barometer, the software publisher specialising in expense management has analysed more than €60 million in expenses, providing an overview of spending habits in French companies.
Transport are logically the main reason for business expenses, representing a total of €671, including €264 for air travel. Catering is a close second, with costs equivalent to €627, including an average meal cost of €30. This is also the item for which the most expense claims are made, with an average of thirty out of a total of 53. Next come accommodation (€398), fuel (€247) and equipment, which, at €140, makes it into the ranking and overtakes services; the rest is accounted for by parking, tolls and car maintenance.
The study shows the predominance of expense reports from small amounts40 % of expenditure is over €30. 35 % of expenditure is between €10 and €30 and 27 % is even less than €10. Conversely, 28 % are between €30 and €100 and 9 % between €100 and €500.
Air France (€274 on average in expense claims), Ibis (€120), SNCF (€68), Mc Donalds (€13), Total (€60) and Amazon (€87): each in their own field, these brands are travellers' favourites. Finally, the Expensya study found that the rise of VTCs in general, and Uber for Business in particular, which alone accounted for 38 % of the average amount spent on taxis in 2018. On the other hand, collaborative accommodation is still marginal in the habits of travellers, who continue to turn to traditional hotels. Airbnb for Work only accounts for 4 % of expenditure, although it is making significant progress since use of the platform accounted for only 2.4 % of accommodation expenditure last year.
