Times are changing, according to this study published by the SoRoom.fr website, which specialises in daytime hotel rental. While it's always tricky to gauge the veracity of a study commissioned by a supplier involved in the subject in question, some surveys allow us to see new trends emerging. According to SoRoom.fr, this survey, carried out in April among 2,113 French people aged 18 and over, aimed to " measure the interest of the French in daytime hotels, and identify the uses and expectations of this new clientele" .
According to SoRoom.fr, almost one customer in two (45%) would be driven to rent a room in the middle of the day for business reasons. To some extent, hotels could be competing with airport or station lounges. In fact, resting between two trains - or two flights - would be the number one professional motivation for this clientele. The opportunity to work in peace and quiet, to prepare for an important meeting or to make calls, comes in second place, ahead of lunch breaks and the organisation of a business meeting. Are business meetings likely to move away from traditional infrastructures? Nothing is less certain, but SoRoom.Fr is inviting hoteliers to consider this new growth lever, in an increasingly competitive context, particularly with the new players in the collaborative economy: " Faced with competition from sites such as Airbnb.com and a drop in bookings following the tragic events in Europe, the rental of hotel rooms during the day is becoming a new source of revenue for hoteliers. "says the press release.
It is worth noting, however, that daytime hotel reservations are still relatively unknown in France: " 57% of French people questioned did not know that it was possible to book a room for more than one night" according to SoRoom.fr.
