Boston, Cancun, New York: this is the trifecta of the least affordable cities in terms of prices charged on the Airbnb website. This is one of the many findings of the Accommodation Price Index published by GoEuro. The multimodal travel platform has attempted to compare the average rates charged in each city by Airbnb hosts, as well as by hotels, from budget to five-star. "Accommodation accounts for the largest share of expenditure for business and leisure travellers, exceeding transport costs by 25% and food costs by 40%," point out the site's managers, reminding us that "over the last 10 years, the hotel industry has changed considerably. More and more travellers are opting for the unique, human experience of shared accommodation rather than traditional hotels". With this in mind, GoEuro embarked on "an impartial study of price indices in 150 cities and some 60,000 properties to analyse the effect of prices in the industry and how they affect travellers", specifying in passing that "This is not a comparison of different types of accommodation but a ranking of their prices in the cities studied".The results show that Paris is in 17th place in a world ranking dominated by New York, Saint-Moritz and Macau, and 88th in the category of most expensive Airbnb destinations. However, the French capital flirts with the top 10 in terms of hotel nights, ranking 11th.
