Hyatt: luxury and lifestyle from Tokyo to Johannesburg

Park Hyatt back in Tokyo and arriving in Johannesburg, the debut of the Thompson brand in Asia, Andaz in Shanghai and Bangkok: the Hyatt group is expanding its range of luxury and lifestyle hotels.

Bill Murray will soon be able to take his jet-lagged actor spleen for a spin once again. The film's star guest Lost in Translation, Park Hyatt Tokyo is back in business at the end of the year, celebrating its 30th anniversary by offering travellers a redesigned setting after more than a year's work. The 171 refurbished rooms and suites feature new restaurant concepts, but the same timeless elegance.

While nearly two-thirds of the American group's hotels in the Asia-Pacific region are positioned in the luxury and lifestyle segments, this positioning will continue with the opening of nearly three new hotels in the region. 90 establishments to open over the next five years. As part of this, Park Hyatt will be making its Malaysian debut in August, at the very top of Kuala Lumpur's - and indeed the entire Asia-Pacific region's - tallest skyscraper, the Merdeka 118 tower. This expansion will also be accompanied by a resort in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, early next year.

But this growth will also be marked by the introduction of a new brand in the region: Thompson Hotels. Business travellers in particular will be able to enjoy its relaxed, arty luxury. in Shanghai in the fourth quarter of 2025, in the heart of the Shanghai World Expo district. With 254 rooms and suites, the Thompson Shanghai Expo will offer one of the largest ballrooms in this part of the city, seating up to 1,150 people. This will be complemented by other meeting and event spaces, including another large room with a capacity of 450.

Just around the corner, Hyatt is preparing to welcome a new member of its The Unbound Collection brand, the Mumian Shanghai Expo, in the third quarter. Meanwhile, lifestyle brand Andaz is preparing to welcome its second hotel in this key Asian metropolis. After an initial appearance in Xintiandi, the brand is heading for the Xujiahui business and shopping district with the Andaz Shanghai ITC, part of a mega-complex combining offices, shopping and hospitality.

Another major Asian metropolis, another ambitious project: One BangkokA new real estate complex in the heart of the Thai capital, next to Lumphini Park. Alongside office towers and a host of retail outlets, the site also features a large number of high-end hotels, including a Ritz-Carlton, a Fraser Suites residence and, for lifestyle, the Andaz One Bangkok, due to open in the fourth quarter.
