Hyatt: Grand luxury around the great blue sea

The Hôtel Martinez in Cannes has been distinguished with palace status, and the reinvented Palais de la Méditerranée has reopened in Nice: the Hyatt group is making headlines on the Côte d'Azur.

One joins the luxurious The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand, the other was already part of it. But all, in their own way, have recently made the headlines. First, the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, which has just joined the exclusive circle of French 'palaces', becoming the sole hotel in the city to have been elevated to this rank. " After several years of waiting, the Palace distinction is finally making its debut in Cannes and we are very honoured., stated Michel Cottray, the director general of this venerable destination institution. This Palace distinction is a sublime recognition of the efforts our team has made over many years. To learn that we have met the required conditions to obtain it fills us with joy. "

This iconic hotel on the Croisette, opened in 1929, was acquired by the American group in 2013 under the name Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez. Offering over 400 rooms and 2,500m² of space for meetings and events, the hotel had everything of a Grand hotel, but also everything of a potential palace. A renovation phase of several months, led by Pierre-Yves Rochon between autumn 2017 and spring 2018, elevated it to the level required to join the brand The Unbound Collection, an upgrading prolonged by the renovation of its famous "Plage du Martinez" before the renewal of its north facade or the transformation of its Penthouse suite.

Any resemblance to the story of another grand hotel on the French Riviera, also with an iconic Art Deco style, also inaugurated in 1929, also transitioning from a more classic brand – Hyatt Regency in this case – to the Unbound Collection, is undoubtedly not accidental. In the same way as the hotel in Cannes, the Palais de la Méditerranée hotel in Nice has just reopened its doors after a multi-month transformation phase to write a new chapter in its history. More chic, more contemporary, more in keeping with the glamour of the Riviera.

" The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is, above all, places with a unique soul, hotels brimming with stories, while remaining resolutely current.describes Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader – Luxury at Hyatt. The Palais de la Méditerranée hotel is one of its most successful examples. From its iconic Art Deco facade to its freshly reinvented interiors with Mediterranean inspirations, the hotel is full of personality, making it an ideal addition to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, as we celebrate the collection's 10th anniversary this year. "

While the Hôtel Martinez has the Croisette as its backdrop, the Palais de la Méditerranée boasts the Promenade des Anglais as its setting and the Bay of Angels as its horizon. A symbol of the golden age of tourism on the French Riviera, what was originally a casino has housed a hotel section since the early 2000s. Behind the listed façade dating from the early 20th centurye century, built by architects Charles and Marcel Dalmas. A hotel that has just been carefully restored and reinvented according to the creative spirit of interior designer Linda Boronkay.

Reinterpreting the hotel's Art Deco heritage through a resolutely modern prism while drawing inspiration from the natural elements of the Mediterranean coast, the hotel now offers 173 rooms, including 28 exceptional suites, lulled by the azure sun and the "Grande Bleue" (the Mediterranean Sea). Among its new features, its ZOUZOU restaurant offers a dining experience that aims to establish itself as a new benchmark on the Riviera's gastronomic scene.

The hotel can continue to rely on its strengths, its indoor and outdoor swimming pools, bordered by a terrace, as well as its rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the Bay of Angels. And of course its capacity to host exceptional meetings. With over 1,700 m² of event spaces overlooking the Mediterranean, the Palais de la Méditerranée can host all types of events, from seminars and international conferences to fashion shows. While its collection of meeting spaces includes seven rooms, its Salon Riviera, the largest reception room, can accommodate up to 936 people in a theatre style, under high ceilings bathed in natural light.
