Iberia is strengthening its offer between Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez and Barcelona-El Prat by joining forces with low-cost carrier Vueling to jointly operate this strategic route. The two airlines, which are both subsidiaries of the IAG group, will establish a real air bridge - hence the name of this shuttle, "Puente Aereo" - between Spain's two largest cities. From July onwards, up to 26 daily flights will be offered on weekdays between 6.30am and 9.45pm, 16 operated by Iberia and 10 by Vueling. Take-offs will be 15 minutes to 30 minutes apart at peak times and one hour apart at other times. At weekends, 13 flights will link the two cities.
The new service also offers greater flexibility. Whereas passengers who bought an open ticket used to go to the airport and board the first plane where there was space, they can now check in online from 24 hours in advance to guarantee their seat. Another option is to buy a ticket for a specific date and time, while the ticket remains open and can therefore be changed at any time and at no charge.
The entire process, from ticket purchase or seat selection to the issue of boarding passes, can be carried out on the iberia.com website or via the airline's mobile app, even for flights operated by Vueling. In addition, customers who have not checked in online will be able to do so in the shuttle area in Madrid and Barcelona, up to 15 minutes before flight departure. These areas are located close to the boarding gates, with VIP lounges nearby for Business passengers.
