At the beginning of August, Indianapolis city councillors kicked off work on the Pan Am Plaza site, next to theIndiana Convention Center. The convention centre will benefit from an expansion plan costing 710 million465 million.
This new phase of growth - the sixth since the convention centre was inaugurated in 1972 - will add some 65,000 m² of space dedicated to meetings and events. The new areas are being built to the east of the current building, and will be linked by an aerial walkway. Inauguration is scheduled for summer 2026.
This should coincide with the destination's other flagship project. The arrival of a hotel clearly positioned to host conferences: Signia by Hilton. The hotel, billed as the city's tallest and dominated by a rooftop overlooking the tower's 40 floors, is expected to have more than 800 rooms. The project includes three function rooms, including an XXL ballroom of over 4,500 m².
" Over the past several decades, the Indiana Convention Center has hosted some of Indiana's and the United States' most iconic major events, while generating billions of dollars in economic impact and supporting a hospitality and service sector that accounts for more than 80,000 jobs." says Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. " This new expansion and the addition of a hotel will ensure that Indianapolis remains at the top of the list when it comes to finding the perfect venue and host city." he continues.
