"Being at work doesn't mean you have to be in the office": this is the basic observation of Intercall, which, on the basis of this premise, put its users to the test, with the result being some surprising revelations. A very large majority (82%) of employees were working on an unrelated issue during the conference. Unsurprisingly, almost half of them (43%) regularly consult social networks. More surprisingly, extra-professional activities are commonplace: during a telephone meeting, 25% of participants confess to having already played video games, and 9% of those surveyed have already... done some physical exercise in the middle of a conference!
Contrary to popular belief, men appear to be more capable of doing several things at once, at least during a conference call. 83% of them say they "multitask", compared with 78% of women. Another finding of the study is that generation Y (18-25 year-olds) are overwhelmingly (76%) in favour of mobile devices during a conference call, while a slight majority of 36-45 year-olds remain cautious and prefer fixed lines (53%). Finally, we note that a quarter of employees (27%) admit to having fallen asleep during a telephone meeting, and that 5% of them have not hesitated to be replaced by a friend...
