Le Kenya starts the year 2024 with a new sign of openness to international travellers. Visit visa in force up to now has been replaced by a electronic travel authorisation (eTA) with a view to simplifying arrivals. The first beneficiaries were welcomed on 5 January.
This system is based on a dedicated platform, accompanied by a mobile application. It is also specified that requests made via third-party sites will not be accepted.
Travellers are asked to submit their requests at least three days before their arrival. However, as part of a process presented as "semi-automated", the Kenyan authorities recommend that the process be initiated when the flight and accommodation are booked. The application can be launched up to three months before the date of arrival.
In addition to the usual documents (passport valid for six months, passport photo, details of itinerary and accommodation), the Kenyan authorities require a letter of invitation from the company for a business visit.
In particular, the introduction of eTA should speed up the process at airports, significantly reducing queues for immigration checks.
