London Luton airport has big ambitions, announcing a development project that will see the hub increase its capacity by up to 50%.

The saturation of Heathrow airport is prompting London's other airports to step up their development, to offer new alternatives to airlines and travellers alike. Luton airport, 45 minutes from London, aims to handle 18 million passengers a year and create some 6,000 jobs. But it still needs to win the support of the various stakeholders - particularly local residents - and attract business travellers thanks to the high-speed rail link between the airport and London.
