LATAM: new high-tech services

The travel industry is taking its turn with its digital plans. Hotel groups Accor, a month ago, and Melia International, this week, announced investments of hundreds of millions of euros in new technologies. For its part, the airline group LATAM went back over the 80 million euros that the group spent in 2014 on improving its high-tech services.

Of the €80 million spent in 2014 on their technology offering by the two airlines in the South American LATAM group, Chile's LAN and Brazil's TAM, several products have been designed to optimise the quality of on-board service and the travel experience for passengers. Among these innovations, LAN's and TAM's mobile applications not only issue electronic boarding passes, but also provide real-time information on their flights. This makes it possible to quickly offer alternatives in the event of changes or cancellations.

LAN and TAM Airlines have also announced a partnership with YouTube to expand their in-flight entertainment offering through a selection of the most popular channels on the online video hosting site. The airlines are also launching a wireless LAN and TAM Entertainment system. Travellers will be able to watch films, series and videos on their own mobile devices.

"On board LAN and TAM Airlines, it is important to us that passengers can organise and optimise their travel time. We want to move from a traditional travel experience to a more interactive and fluid one that reduces airport waiting times and offers more in-flight entertainment options and better information in the event of an emergency," explained Jérôme Cadier, Vice President Marketing, LATAM Airlines Group.
