The turbulence experienced by major European hubs - and in particular that ofHeathrow - are leading to a rethink and a number of innovations. Based on the model of the approach initiated at Amsterdam Schiphol, the main airport of London in turn intends to make the passenger journey smoother. From 3 October, Heathrow Timeslot allows passengers to reserve their time slot for security checks.
Not all passengers are eligible: the scheme is limited to Terminal 3 passengers travelling with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic. Heathrow Timeslot is, for the time being, just a experiment. This must last six monthsDuring this period, other companies are expected to join the programme.
" Everyone knows about airport security, but at Heathrow we are constantly thinking of innovative ways to enhance security and streamline the experience for our passengers.says Mark Powell. The Director of Operational Planning at Heathrow adds: '"This new trial will give passengers a little more certainty and reassurance ahead of their journey and we think it will be particularly popular with families or anxious travellers who want a little more assurance when travelling. We look forward to the data that will allow us to learn lessons about how we can roll out this system across Heathrow Airport." .
