With initial experience on a number of intercontinental airlines, Lufthansa offers sleeper berths on more long-haul flights. A real added value for economy class passengers.
The German airline Lufthansa has extended its its "Sleeper's Row" concept from 2 August. This service offers economy class passengers the chance to reserve three to four seats in the same row in order to use them as sleeping berths on destinations that are roughly equivalent to an 11-hour flight.
This service was successfully trialled last year on the Frankfurt-Sao Paulo. It is now being offered to other destinations in Asia such as Singapore or South Africa. It is also on sale for flights to West coast of the United States or Canada as well as to theLatin America.
The company limits its offer to Sleeper's Row "to a maximum of three-row cab. Passengers have three or four adjacent seats. These are accompanied byadditional comfort accessories. Like a business-class quality blanket and mattress and a small quilt. A special safety belt completes the installation. It allows the passenger to remain strapped in, even in the lightened position. Finally, another advantage of the service is the priority pre-boarding in economy class.
However, the Sleeper's Row service is not available for pre-sale.. It can only be reserved at the time of the airport check-in or directly at the boarding gate. A way for the airline to better manage its stock of unsold seats. The cost of this service varies between €159 and €229 depending on the route.. This offer is part of the concept of more à la carte services offered by the German carrier.
