"As my gallery is located right in the heart of the old town, it's a strategic point for spreading the word and organising meetings. I really like Bazaar, a new restaurant-bar with a sublime interior and a very warm welcome. It's a good place for dinner or a business lunch, as the menu is really interesting, with Middle Eastern dishes and some very good cocktails. Still in the upper town, I recommend the Bouquet Garni restaurant for its quick and delicious business lunch. On Saturdays, I like to take my time and take advantage of the fact that the gallery doesn't open until eleven o'clock to pop into the market on Place Guillaume and buy some local produce. Still in the old town, I like to drop in at the Casino, a former nineteenth-century gaming club that has become a contemporary art forum. It's a great place to discover the work of the younger generation of artists.
In terms of shopping, if you want to take home something made in Luxemburg, I recommend the Vol(t)age boutique, which my wife recently introduced me to. As a gallery owner and a Luxembourger, I particularly appreciate the fact that local ready-to-wear is developing with unique creations, contrasting with the offerings of the big international names. I also love the Fellner Louvigny bookshop, in a little street in the centre. Hans has the best selection of art books in Luxembourg. He always has recommendations that are worth a visit.
If you're in the lower town, I suggest lunch at the Um Plateau restaurant, which, thanks to its lovely terrace, is ideal for enjoying the long summer days. But also in winter, as its atmosphere is very cosy. You'll enjoy tasty dishes with a Mediterranean influence. Another place to dine is the Hostellerie du Grünewald, located just outside the city, in an idyllic setting that takes you on a journey. The cuisine is extremely refined, but the prices remain affordable.
For anyone visiting the city, however briefly, a visit to the Kirchberg district is a must. It's certainly the business district and home to the European institutions, but it's also home to some of the city's major cultural attractions. Mudam, for example, is a museum of modern and contemporary art whose programme fits perfectly into this surprising glass building. A stone's throw away is the magnificent Philharmonie, designed by Christian de Portzamparc, with concerts of the highest quality. Kirchberg is a district to explore, not only for business, but also for its architecture and culture.
