Mandarin Oriental and Marriott shake up Madrid's hotel industry

Two big names in the hotel industry have set their sights on Madrid: Mandarin Oriental, which has just taken up residence in the former Ritz, and Marriott, which is preparing to launch the JW Marriott brand on the Spanish market.

Six years after announcing the acquisition of Ritz, à MadridAt the cost of a three-year renovation, estimated at the time at 90 million euros, it was done: Mandarin Oriental has opened its doors in the Spanish capital. Housed in a legendary building - the Ritz was inaugurated in 1910 - and strategically located just a stone's throw from the Prado, the establishment has welcomed its first travellers since the 15 April. And it intends to establish itself as "the most luxurious hotel in town".
