Whereas Mandarin Oriental has recently added a second address to Londonthe Asian luxury group is already announcing a new destination for 2028, this time on the left bank of the Thames. Already established in the prestigious districts of Knightsbridge and MayfairMandarin Oriental will be moving closer to the City and the West End by taking part in the Bankside Yards development.
Ambitious and creative, this new sustainable district - guaranteed to "fossil fuel-free - is gradually taking shape between Tate Modern and Blackfriars station, on an underused site around 14 Victorian railway arches. This centrally-located site will see the emergence of eight new skyscrapers - some of them around fifty storeys high - which will house offices and residential accommodation, organised around green spaces, bars and restaurants.
It is in this context that the future Mandarin Oriental will offer 70 branded residences for residential use and for travellers, 171 luxury rooms. The hotel will feature a spa with a 25-metre swimming pool, as well as four restaurants, some on the ground floor and others on the nineteenth floor of the building, with views over the city. The hotel's business vocation is already planned, with meeting rooms and modular sub-committees, a foyer, plus an outdoor terrace for events.
