The Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games will be held from 6 to 22 February. And as with every major event, business travellers will have to deal with specific constraints. Riskline has therefore looked into the matter and compiled a few tips in a Safety Guide.
The specialist in travel safety is warning - and logically so - of the consequences of the influx of visitors. Starting with airports, whether Milan Malpensa, Linate or Venice Marco Polo. High passenger volumes, extended security checks and delays are expected for business travellers.
Still on the subject of transport, Riskline warns of congested rail lines, particularly to Cortina and the Trentino valleys. Especially as the additional shuttle services could be disrupted by weather conditions.
As far as security is concerned, the guide points to increased risks in the vicinity of strategic sites, such as the famous San Siro stadium or the Arena in Verona, where large crowds are expected... and therefore greater exposure to pickpockets and scams.
Against this backdrop, the authorities have naturally stepped up security. As a result, security checks are likely to be stepped up - particularly at the opening ceremony on 6 February in Milan and the closing ceremony on 22 February in Verona. Business travellers should therefore expect to have to show their credentials regularly if they pass through the airports or stations in Northern Italy.
Finally, Riskline is urging travellers to be extra vigilant when it comes to cybercrime : " Major international events increase the risk of cyber threats targeting infrastructure, transport and energy networks. Visitors must be vigilant in the face of phishing attempts, fraudulent applications and malicious Wi-Fi networks." .
