Located on Manhattan's 24th Street, the hotel is housed in a 42-storey tower designed by Stonehill Taylor, an architectural and interior design firm renowned for its conversion of the TWA terminal into a hotel at New York's JFK Airport Hotel and his work on New York's Ace Hotels and the inventive and sustainable NoMad Hotel.

In addition to its design and arty feel, the range features 374 rooms with flexible sleeping configurations and quality. For example, a classic king bed or one that can be stored in the wall, a bunk bed or four twin beds in a single room. All this combined with well-appointed bathrooms, optimised space with built-in storage and high-tech control of the room's functions using the Hilton Honors app.

Another special feature of the Motto concept is that the Motto Chelsea offers 19 sets of connecting rooms, enabling guests to book up to three rooms together. This offer is primarily aimed at groups of friends and families, but can also be of interest to business travellers. By booking two adjoining rooms, they can build up a sort of suite with a sleeping area on one side and a living room for working and entertaining on the other, with the bed tucked into the wall.

The Motto concept, which in some respects is a new-generation top-of-the-range youth hostel, is also designed for business travellers. The lobby, named Motto Commons, lends itself as much to relaxation as it does to work and meetings. To this end, the Motto Commons has a conference table for up to 10 people. The second floor also has a meeting room for 150 people, extended by an outdoor terrace. In addition to a high-tech fitness centre, the Motto by Hilton Chelsea is a lively place at all hours, with an Italian-inspired restaurant, Bar Cicchetti, run by Fabio Viviani, a contestant on the American version of Top Chef, as well as a bar offering cocktails and craft beers.

After this opening in New York, other Motto will open soon. European travellers will be able to discover this concept from spring onwards in the heart of Rotterdam, close to the Markthal and its many food stalls. Destinations include Lima Miraflores, Mexico City and Tulum in Mexico, and several in the United States, with other Motto locations in New York, near Times Square and in Brooklyn, as well as in Atlanta, Indianapolis and Savannah.
