Moxy Hotels is continuing its international expansion by setting up in Japan. The opening of two hotels in Tokyo and Osaka marks the start of the Asia-Pacific expansion of Marriott's budget lifestyle brand. After an initial establishment opened this summer in Bandung, Indonesia, Moxy has now decided to export its concept to the Japanese capital. Located just a few minutes' walk from Kinshicho station, the Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho offers 205 rooms that are both minimalist and high-tech.
Guests will find all the trendy hallmarks of the brand: a design with an industrial accent, an informal welcome with the option of checking in directly at the bar, or even electronically as guests' smartphones are also used as room keys, as well as lively communal areas, called NOW + WOW and regularly enlivened by screenings of classic films and treasure hunts, for example, or quiz nights.
"Moxy is specially designed for this new generation of travellers - we call them Fun Hunters - who want a hotel that meets their specific needs, a place that is both affordable and fun. It's a great place to stay," explains Shigeki Nakagawa, manager of the Moxy Osaka Honmachi. With 155 rooms, the hotel is located close to Honmachi Station, one of the city's main railway stations, and not far from the lively and popular Shinsaibashi district.
These first launches in Asia come on top of the brand's strong growth in North America and Asia. in Europe. Moxy, which began its story in 2014 at Milan Malpensa airport, will continue its romance with the major hubs. After opening near Vienna and Frankfurt airports earlier this year, the brand will soon be landing at London Heathrow. Other airport hotels are expected to open in 2018 in Edinburgh, Katowice, Milan Linate and Venice, in addition to a second hotel at Frankfurt airport.
At the same time, the brand intends to meet the expectations of new travellers in the heart of cities, with new hotels expected next year in Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Glasgow, Hamburg and Tbilisi. This urban offensive is particularly noticeable in the United States, where Moxy, after opening a hotel in New York near Times Square, is preparing to add four more in Manhattan. Cities such as Atlanta, Denver, San Francisco and Washington are also on the agenda.
