What is the role of a "green architect"?
D. G. - As a consultant, I help developers and institutions to take the right measures to reduce a building's energy consumption. I teach them to choose local or recycled materials.
Is New York an example to follow?
D. G. - New York is certainly leading the way. Today, old taxis are being replaced by hybrid cars; parks along the Hudson and East Rivers are reconnecting residents with their rivers; urban farms - especially hydroponic ones - are growing organic produce; and cycle lanes are making it easier to get around by bike. Other initiatives include cogeneration systems, 'double skinned' buildings to improve air circulation, 'green roofs'... and many other innovative green strategies are being applied throughout the city.
